Not Reopening on 29 May 20

Artloch Fishery will NOT be reopening on Friday 29 May 20 because both of us are having to self isolate. We plan to reopen on Sat 27 Jun, but if things change, then we will update both this website and our Facebook page. Disappointing as it is, we’re sure you’ll agree that health comes before everything else, so wherever you go fishing…….tight lines.

What a week or so it’s been, at least with the weather! Rain, bright sunshine, a rising and falling barometer, flat calm water, changing wind direction, humid and sticky conditions – all making fishing, or catching fish, that more challenging. While the recent warm / hot weather has certainly brought out the wildlife, in particular a large number of blue damsels and various spinners that the house martins have thoroughly…

Sorry that’s been a while, but it’s been a pretty hectic couple of weeks. As you would expect at this time of year, the trout are feeding well which means that a large number of anglers are using a variety of dry flies. Examples have been Black Hopper, Sedge (various patterns), Caddis, Greenwell Glory and Daddies. Even when the trout have not been showing, they have been tempted to come…

Families Day – Photographs. These can now be found at Deveron, Bogie & Isla Rivers Charitable Trust post, dated 22 May. The past week or so has been, yet again, a bit of a mixed bag regarding the weather. For those anglers visiting the area who came to fish for salmon were disappointed because of the poor conditions. Best rainbow was circa 5 lbs, while other in the 3 to…

It’s been an interesting couple of weeks regarding the weather with almost a heat wave, today sleet and snow and an almost constant easterly wind. I mention the wind because we usually have a westerly, so that’s been very unusual and, at times, cold. Still despite these conditions’ anglers have, in the main, continued to see fish both moving around the loch and feeding off, or very near, the surface.…

The improved weather in recent days was a welcome relief from the cold wind, with a couple of days with some sunny and warm weather. Unfortunately, it didn’t last long with the return of a cold, easterly wind. Still the forecast is for an overall improvement this week; I hope so because today has been particularly cold again! Once again, as in life, some anglers have been more successful that…
